A message from our principal

and how you can help

First of all, some words of thanks and praise. On December 3rd, Wesley College received a tremendous blessing.  For Giving Tuesday, we had been challenged with a generous $10,000 matching grant for our scholarship fund. I never expected we would receive that total amount in just one day, but we did! For me, personally, and for our staff and students, this was a great encouragement.

But if you haven't already made a year-end gift to Wesley College, there is another powerful way that you can help us transform lives and community in Tanzania.

As you may know, a few months back, Wesley College was granted full registration from Tanzania’s Ministry of Education. This was great news and came as the result of a rigorous application process.

In response, we’ve already added new classes, admitted new students, and established new levels for our programs. We’ve hired more inspiring, committed faculty and staff. To do this, we needed to take over a whole new floor in our college building. That new floor was completely unfinished space, so we were forced to take on a significant construction project.

Now, a few months later, I’m happy to report that the walls are up. But I’m asking for your help with the finishing touches. We still have a dire shortage of equipment and furniture.

We’ve been able to outfit some new classrooms with desks and chairs, but not all of them. Right now, in Mwanza, students are carrying their own furniture from room to room. The much-needed new computer lab is complete –  except we don’t have an adequate number of computers.

New faculty, also, are needing to put up with less-than-ideal circumstances. Some of them don’t have laptops. Others are working without cubicles and without any cabinets to store their materials. Overall, we have been able to expand our space, but we need your help to fill it with furniture and equipment.

Here is my 'wish list' for year-end gifts:

$40       a much-needed textbook

$100     helps provide internet access in our new computer lab

$200     one student computer

$350     a file cabinet for an academic department

$500     a laptop for a new faculty member

$2150   outfits an entire new classroom on the new floor of our building

I hope you will prayerfully consider supporting our expansion project. If you do, you will provide a very special Christmas gift to all Wesley College students.
